CMTA Launches Product Committee and Appoints New Chair of Technical and Expert Committees
Geneva, 13 October 2026 — The Capital Markets and Technology Association (CMTA) today announced the creation of a new Product Committee within its Advisory Board. The Product Committee will be chaired by Gabi Urrutia, SVP Security & Field CISO of Halborn, and will guide the development and prioritization of international tokenization standards and related services. The Association also announced the appointment of Dr. Nicolas Bonvin as the new Chair of both its Technical Committee and its Expert Committee, succeeding Dr. Jean-Philippe Aumasson, who is stepping down after more than eight years in those roles.
Creation of the Product Committee
The CMTA announced the establishment of a new Product Committee within its Advisory Board. The Product Committee will primarily serve as CMTA's strategic steering group responsible for overseeing the structure and functions of CMTAT, CMTA's open source smart contract framework, ensuring that it meets the financial industry's needs for the tokenization of securities and financial instruments. Its responsibilities will include defining strategic standardization priorities, proposing and prioritizing new features and smart contract developments, and deciding on ecosystem support for new blockchain networks. Together with the Technical Committee, the Product Committee will oversee the development of CMTA's smart contract framework to provide the level of reliability, standardization, and quality required for the development of DLT-based products and financial infrastructures at the international level.
The Product Committee will be chaired by Gabi Urrutia, SVP Security & Field CISO of Halborn. Halborn is a leading blockchain security firm specializing in smart contract auditing, penetration testing, and security advisory services. The firm has established itself as one of the most trusted names in blockchain security, having audited hundreds of projects across major blockchain ecosystems and helping secure over $100 billion in digital assets. In addition to Mr. Urrutia, the Product Committee's inaugural members include Christoph Puhr (UBS), Lucas Bruggeman (Seturion) and Steve Blanchet (Pictet).
"The constitution of the Product Committee is an important step for the development of CMTA's open source smart contract framework. It reflects the recognition of the key importance of smart contracts for the tokenization of securities and DLT-based market infrastructures at the international level. With the CMTAT framework, CMTA does not only provide open source implementations for key blockchains, but also a governance framework that guarantees that the architecture and features of the smart contracts are in line with the needs of the financial industry,” said Dr. Jacques Iffland, Chairman of the CMTA.
New Chair of Technical and Expert Committees
CMTA's Executive Committee has appointed Dr. Nicolas Bonvin to chair the Technical Committee, which oversees the technical development of CMTA's standardization work, and the Expert Committee, which assesses smart contracts against CMTA standards. Dr. Bonvin will replace Dr. Jean-Philippe Aumasson in those positions, following Dr. Aumasson's change of company. Throughout his tenure, Dr. Aumasson played an instrumental role in shaping CMTA's technical standards. The Executive Committee extends its warmest thanks to Dr. Aumasson, who will remain as a member of the Technical Committee, for his outstanding contributions and lasting impact on the Association's work.
Dr. Nicolas Bonvin brings extensive expertise in software and system architecture to these roles. He serves as CTO at Taurus, where he specializes in large-scale systems, cloud computing, and security. Dr. Bonvin holds an MSc in Computer Science from EPFL and a PhD in Distributed Systems from EPFL (2011). His appointment ensures continuity and renewed momentum for CMTA's technical standardization efforts.
CMTA's Technical Committee operates within the Advisory Board, providing technical expertise on CMTA's standards, with a particular focus on the CMTAT framework.
The Expert Committee, which Dr. Bonvin will also chair, is responsible for deciding on the equivalence of third-party smart contracts with the CMTAT. Such recognition of equivalence allows issuers who use smart contracts other than the CMTAT for the tokenization of their securities to benefit from CMTA's certification schemes and obtain confirmation of their securities' alignment with CMTA standards.
